Background Information

The following resources can help you find background information about business law and your individual court case:

  • Legal Information Institute: The LII publishes electronic versions of core materials in numerous areas of the law, primarily on the Web. They range from the Constitution to the U.S. Code, from Supreme Court decisions to the Code of Federal Regulations as well as the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Bankruptcy Procedure, and Criminal Procedure.
  • JURIST: JURIST is an award-winning online legal news service powered by a global team of over 80 law student reporters, editors, commentators, correspondents and content developers from 30 law schools on six continents.
  • United States Reports: Hosted by the Library of Congress, the United States Reports is a series of bound case reporters that are the official reports of decisions for the Supreme Court of the United States. This digital collection of the U.S. Reports contains volumes 1-570, covering the years 1754-2012. Many full-text Supreme Court opinions and cases are included.

Community Resources


Massanutten Regional Library offers access to legal resources at their Central Library location in Harrisonburg, including Lexis Advance, a database specifically used to research cases, codes, and other secondary resources. Please note that MRL staff can not provide legal assistance; they are only available to help you with your legal research.
