Using EBSCOhost resources : Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, ERIC, PsycArticles, etc. : Making an EBSCO account

EBSCOhost databases have been updated to a new user interface. This guide will provide some tips and tricks for using EBSCO databases. This includes Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, CINAHL, ERIC, PsycArticles, etc.

Why make an EBSCO account?

Creating a free EBSCO account will allow you to set up "Projects" to keep track of articles for different purposes. For example, you can set up a project for your English course and save all your resources for that specific class in the same place.

Creating an Account

To setup an account, click on the MyEBSCO icon in the upper right hand corner.

Click on "Create an account"

Use your school email to setup your account.

After you finish creating your account, go back to the database, and sign in with your new credentials.

You are now ready to save articles to your account for easy access! Set up project folders to keep track of which articles you want to use for each course.

Saving Articles

You can access your saved articles through the dashboard menu on the left. Scroll for information on how to set up a "Projects" folder to easily keep track of research needed for your different courses.

To set up a folder to save your research for an individual class or paper, click on "Projects" in the dashboard menu on the left. Once you are in the "Projects" space, click on the blue plus icon at the top right. This will bring up the option to create a new project folder.

You can name the "Project" whatever you wish. The example below uses a course title as the project name. You can also provide a "due date" to help you track the project timeline and a description for assignment clarifications.

Then you can begin searching for articles. Once you find one you are interested in, there are a few options available for saving an article to your project folder.

On the full list of search results, you can add an article to your projects by clicking on the 3 dots in the upper righthand corner and selecting "Add to project."

You can access the same menu option within the article itself as well. The menu option at the top right that looks like a folder with a plus sign will allow you to add the article you are reading to your projects folder.

Select the project folder you wish to add the article to and select add now.

You can access your full collection of articles by clicking on the "Projects" menu option in the dashboard to the left.
