English 245 : British Literature: Search Basics

Using Quotation Marks to Search for Specific Phrases

You have probably heard the term "Boolean searching" in other classes. For this assignment, we are going to focus on putting phrases that we want to search for in quotation marks.

You can use quotation marks to find information about authors for your assignment. The search below will give me results that include the exact phrase T.S. Eliot.

Example keyword search: T.S. Eliot in quotation marks

You can also use quotation marks to find information about novels for your assignment. The search below will give me results that include the exact phrase Waste Land.

example keyword search: waste land in quotations

We can also put all of our terms together to help the search results be specific to both the author and the work.

example keyword search: waste land and t.s. eliot, both in quotation marks
