Finding Literary Criticism in Gale Literary Sources

This is the search box for Gale Literature. You can search by author or by the work you are researching. When you begin to type in the box, it will auto-complete it for you.

When I began to type in "Eliot", the database filled in the author's full name: T.S. Eliot. This ensures that I get all of the results for the author that the database has.

When I began to type in "The Waste Land," the database provided several options, but I want to make sure that I am clicking on the correct iteration of the work--the poem.

This is a screen of results. Make sure you are on the Literature Criticism tab so you are using appropriate material for your assignment! You will also see limiter options for full-text and peer-review on the right hand side of the page. Check the box for Full Text (this eliminates all the results you don't have access to) and Peer Reviewed (only gives articles that are peer reviewed).

If you want to look for something specific in your results, such as the word war in articles about "The Waste Land," click on the "Search Within" tab and enter the term you are searching for.

This is an example of a record you will find in Gale Literature. On the upper right hand side, you will see the following options: cite (beware of the results you get), send to (email to yourself), download and print. You will also see a link option. This is the permalink - remember to never use the link in your internet browser because it will not work when you go back to access the article. Always use the permalink.

Search for Topics in Gale

You can also use Gale to search for works or authors within specific topic areas.

Again, it would be best to stick to the Literature Criticism tab to make sure you are getting quality essays that can help you build your argument.

You can add a Search Within filter for your author's name, or the work you are writing on.
