This is the search box for Gale Literature. You can search by author or by the work you are researching. When you begin to type in the box, it will auto-complete it for you.
When I began to type in "Eliot", the database filled in the author's full name: T.S. Eliot. This ensures that I get all of the results for the author that the database has.

When I began to type in "The Waste Land," the database provided several options, but I want to make sure that I am clicking on the correct iteration of the work--the poem.

Once you make a choice in the dropdown menu, stick to the Literature Criticism tab so you are using material appropriate to your assignment! You will also see filter options that will allow you to narrow your results with added layers of specificity. Check the box for Full Text (this eliminates all the results you don't have access to) and Peer Reviewed (only gives articles that are peer reviewed).

If you want to look for a specific keyword within your results, such as the word war in articles about "The Waste Land," click on the "Search Within" box and enter the term you are searching for.

This is an example of a result you will find in Gale Literature. On the upper right hand side, you will see the following options: cite (always check the citation against our writing and citing guide), send to (email to yourself), download and print. You will also see a link option. This is the permalink - use this tool instead of the URL at the top of your browser page. That is only a temporary link. Always use the permalink located in the "get link" function.

You can also use Gale to search for works or authors within specific topic areas. To begin a topic based search, click on the


Again, it would be best to stick to the Literature Criticism tab to make sure you are getting quality essays that can help you build your argument.

You can add a "Search Within" filter for your author's name, or the work you are writing on.
